NSM Raises More Than $11K on 2022 Day of Giving

CSUF’s annual Day of Giving raises crucial funds for worthy causes throughout the University, like student empowerment projects. In 2022, Titans from the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics gave generously, contributing to the event’s record-breaking success.

CSUF’s annual Day of Giving began in 2020 as part of the University’s “It Takes a Titan” fundraising campaign. Created to make a difference for students and the community, the campaign prioritizes investments in innovative education, student empowerment, infrastructure improvements, and community enrichment. Each year, Titans from around the globe come together to support the University and its students, contributing to the competitive education opportunities and experiences that CSUF provides.

The 24-hour 2022 Day of Giving was held on March 9. The third annual event was a record-breaking success, with more than 1,960 donors from the U.S., Canada, Australia, and South Korea contributing a whopping $491,900 – 8 percent more than what was raised in 2021, and more than double the first Day of Giving’s result.

NSM Helps Break Records

For the first time, the annual Day of Giving featured on-campus events. Students congregated on Titan Walk to sign thank-you cards for donors, and Tuffy (CSUF’s mascot) and students surprised the CSUF campus with a flash mob performance of ABBA’s classic hit “Money, Money, Money” in front of Titan Shops.

Online, fundraising and matching challenges helped ramp up the donation momentum throughout the day. The Early Bird, Lunch Hour, and Happy Hour challenges matched $27,701 in donations, doubling their impact.

Corporate donors played a significant role in the day’s success, too. California Bank & Trust donated $10,000 to support CSUF’s greatest needs when the milestone of 500 donors had been reached by 5 p.m. PepsiCo sponsored challenges that awarded a total of $20,000 to college areas with the largest number of donors and the most funds raised, plus $5,000 to student ambassadors who recruited the largest number of donors. The winning students got to choose which areas received the awarded funds.

Departments within NSM helped make an impact on the day’s fundraising. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry raised $5,610 alone, and the Department of Mathematics raised an additional $2,435. General NSM donations totaled another $3,660, making NSM’s grand total for the 2022 Day of Giving a robust $11,705.

Save the Date: Day of Giving 2023

The success of the 2022 Day of Giving has proven once again that the Titan community can do amazing things when everyone comes together. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and family all pitched in to make this year’s event one to remember.
