On average, about 33% of NSM students are first-generation college attendees. To support the ambitions of these students in their study of mathematics, Cal State Fullerton proudly announces the Bonsangue Family Scholarship. Founded by Martin and Nancy Bonsangue, both alumni of CSUF, this scholarship reflects their commitment to giving back to the university that played a pivotal role in their own educational and professional lives.
“Through the Bonsangue Family Scholarship, we aim to lessen the financial burden on first-generation students, enabling them to focus more on their studies and less on financial constraints,” stated Martin Bonsangue, Faculty Emeritus. “We believe that by investing in these students, we are investing in the future of mathematics and the diverse intellectual community at Cal State Fullerton.”
The Bonsangue Family Scholarship offers $1,000 to help students overcome financial barriers and ease the burden of rising higher education costs. New and continuing full-time students pursuing either undergraduate or graduate degrees in mathematics are candidates for this scholarship. Undergraduates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and graduate students must maintain a 3.3 GPA.
Eligible students must demonstrate not only academic excellence but also a clear vision for their post-graduation plans. Applications must include a personal statement on career goals and strategies for achieving these objectives, alongside two letters of recommendation. This higher-demand application allows qualified candidates to showcase their dedication to mathematics and potential to contribute to the field.
CSUF has long been recognized as a hub for educational innovation and a driver of economic development in Southern California. The University’s commitment to high-impact educational experiences is further exemplified by the Bonsangue Family Scholarship, which aligns with CSUF’s mission to support student success through various academic and co-curricular experiences.
Applicants interested in the Bonsangue Family Scholarship should prepare their materials carefully to reflect their academic dedication and professional aspirations. The scholarship application can be accessed online at CSUF’s financial aid website, and completed applications should be submitted to the mathematics department via email.
Through the generosity of the Bonsangue family, this scholarship not only facilitates educational opportunities for deserving students but also aims to continue the culture of philanthropy and continuous achievement within the CSUF community.
